I've been asked on Twitter a lot of times if I managed to find out who the upstream vendor was. Since many of the vendors I found were Vietnamese companies, the'vendor' was probably the 'country' of origin. Since they didn't author the manufacturer-signed firmware (but authorized the release it seems), the'vendor' probably was none of the Vietnamese companies. Thus, I accepted them as upstream vendors. The only vendor I found who did not sign their firmware was 'FS' (now 'PANO' on their site).

In any case, the downstream vendor did not know it, so far as I know, either. So there is no need to go after them any longer. Nevertheless, I don't think the vendor is gone. It may simply be hidden under a different vendor name. But I have not been able to find it as of yet.

After the report from Huawei, I found other vendors that also produce e8200d/e8205d or similar products in house. However, I have not been able to identify them yet. So there still is a need for a security warning notice. I have found out that the different vendors all use the same devices. But they are not identical and usually run different firmware. So if you're looking for an excuse to get me to stay silent, please don't do it any longer.
