The first single-player campaign, Resident Evil 4, is a direct sequel to 2002's original Resident Evil. It picks up after Jill Valentine's multi-day ordeal, in which the Umbrella Corporation has sealed her in a laboratory. Facing severe threats, Jill must attempt to escape, overcome obstacles and kill her former handlers. Resident Evil 4 is classified by most as one of the greatest survival horror games of all time, featuring some of the best story, graphics, characters, music, dialogue and puzzle design ever. The fourth game also introduced the Revolver (in both the original and special edition) and the Gas Mask (in the special edition), the latter of which was absent in the previous game, providing unlimited ammunition to help her escape the horrors of the previous game. Despite the fact that this is also the last of the original series, Resident Evil 2 received a following of its own quickly, which has brought it a number of spin-offs. The second game was structured as a prequel to the first and included a significant character, Albert Wesker, almost four years before the events of the first game. Most of the storylines between the two were ignored, but some parts of it were referenced in the first game.
Resident Evil 5, released in 2007 and currently the only game to be included in the RE franchise to be released on both current-gen and next-gen platforms, is an action-oriented continuation of the story-line of the previous game. Where the events of Resident Evil 4 were classified by many fans as a 'cop-out', Resident Evil 5 aimed to hit more of the 'classic' genre elements, including the return of the chainsaw-wielding Nemesis. Also, this was the first game to make use of the console's main CPU, the PlayStation 3's Cell, which not only helped with rendering and effects, but also had to do with the game's multiplayer. Additionally, the game tells the story of the 'Jill clone' and bioweapons expert, Jill Valentine, who had been on a secret operation in Colombia for over five years prior to the events of Resident Evil 5. d2c66b5586
