Reports in US media say thousands of contractors who had been working for Twitter have had their contracts terminated. Technology news site Platformer says as many as 80% of its 5,500 contractor workforce were laid off in the move but the company made no official announcement.
Sylvia started working as a prostitute in order to survive but also abused him for interfering with her business. In one incident, possibly at the age of ten (or younger), Walter heard his mother having sex with a client, and approached, thinking he was hurting her. As he entered the room, the man became angry and left only five dollars, far less than she anticipated. In her rage, she began to beat Walter, calling him an 'ugly little bastard' shouting that she should have listened to everybody and had an abortion.[2]
On May 27, 1953, while thirteen, Walter told one of the employees about a nightmare he suffered and they wrote a transcription of the verbal recounting. He describes that a man was with his mom and they were eating stuff like raw dough. His mother choked on a piece and the man tried to fish it out of her throat. He told Kovacs to get a doctor and he looked but realized there was no doctor in his home. When walking down one of the hallways he saw the man and his mom dancing without clothes on. When he got nearer he saw that they were squashed together, joined at the face, chest, and stomach. He recalls the way they were blended together and how they started towards him like a crab, and he looked down to see trousers and underwear wrapped around their feet. Then he woke up, explaining that the dream upset him, 'physically'.
Rorschach arrived at the unlit building at dusk while Grice was out. He checked the backyard and saw two attack dogs, German Shepherds named Fred and Barney, fighting over a knob of bone. He broke in through the front door and examined the house. In a nearby wood-burning stove he found a piece of children's clothing. One of the cabinets was filled with meat hacking utensils and in the kitchen was a large cutting slab with thick cuts on it. He peered out the window, out at the dogs, and looked at the bone they were still fighting over. It was a femur, a human bone. He went into the yard and cut one dog's head open with a meat cleaver. It was at that moment, when he closed his eyes and opened them again, that he claimed to no longer be Walter Kovacs; he was now Rorschach. He then used the meat cleaver to kill the other dog.
Grice was out drinking when he entered and returned at 10:45 that night. When he walked into the house, Rorschach threw the bloody corpse of one, then the other of the dogs at him through the window, knocking him to the ground. Silently, Rorschach grabbed and handcuffed him to the furnace while Grice screamed that Rorschach had no evidence of what he did. Rorschach left a hacksaw by his hand, then started to pour kerosene throughout the house and pulled out a match, telling Grice that he couldn't saw through the cuffs in time -- suggesting Grice saw through his wrist. Rorschach dropped the match and stood outside, watching the house burn to the ground for an hour, and realized the emptiness of human existence.
After the incident, Rorschach quit his job as a garment worker.[3] He started now working mostly alone, driven crazy, as the Comedian remarked.[7] During the Police Strike of 1977 Rorschach made some inflammatory comments about the police that were never forgotten.[2] During the riots, Rorschach tried alone to quiet the unrest at the Lower East Side.[7]
The Keene Act was passed, outlawing costumed adventurers and demanding their retirements. Enraged and defiant, he answered by leaving the corpse of the notorious multiple rapist Harvey Charles Furniss[1] in front of a police station with a note pinned to his chest, reading \"Never!\"[9] True to his word, Rorschach continued fighting crime in open defiance of the law, living in a slum owned by his landlady, Dolores Shairp, without any source of income. During the day, he could be seen walking around the streets of New York City without his face or costume as a vagrant with a sign that reads \"The end is nigh.\"
Rorschach hadn't slept since Saturday; in October 21 he breaks into Jacobi's house again after midnight, this time shoving him into the refrigerator, and is slowly starting to unravel the plot of the murder. Rorschach leaves the house thus writing one entry after leaving Jacobi's, and then another after leaving his apartment and seeing Dreiberg and Laurie come out of Gunga Diner. He sits in the diner and watches his 'maildrop' across the street (the trash can on the corner), waiting for Jacobi to leave a message. Writing his final entry on October 21, he has learned of the attempted assassination on Adrian Veidt's life, which is further proof of his 'mask-killer' theory. He reads a note from Jacobi that tells him to call at 11:30 p.m., then picks up his outfit and face from an alleyway where he left it, on his way to interrupt an attempted rape/mugging/both.[12]
In their first meetings he examines Kovacs' opinions through the Rorschach inkblot test, though Rorschach tells Malcolm that he sees pretty butterflies and flowers while he actually sees pictures much more gruesome, like a dog with its head split in (a memory of the kidnapped girl ten years ago), or the night when he walked in on his mother with a john.[2]
On October 31st, Halloween night, Big Figure and his cronies return with an arc welder to get through the lock. Kovacs insults Lawrence, who reaches through the bars trying to grab him. Using his shredded shirt, Rorschach ties Lawrence's two smallest fingers together, breaking them in the process. Because Lawrence is in the way, Michael is forced to sever of Lawrence's arms, pushing him aside and using the arc welder. Kovacs monotones, \"One-nothing. Your move.\"
Outside of the significant cyber war implications, with some saying the DigiNotar hack will have wider connotations than Stuxnet, ComodoHacker has again thrown the whole CA system's credibility into doubt.
The GHOST vulnerability is the hot new software bug and the end is nigh. It lets anyone take over a vulnerable Linux machine without knowing anything prior about it. Google, Facebook, and most of the internet runs on Linux, so this is a problem, a big one.
You can hack your GE fridge to either let you keep using your old filter (not recommended, they get real glommed up after a while which defeats the entire purpose of a water filter) or use an off-brand filter.
Just followed this hack and it worked like a charm. One thing different was I unscrewed the little plastic bracket that holds the RFID chip and then I lined up my bypass RFID exactly on the outside of the bracket. The bracket holds all the electronic circuit board. Worked like a charm. Although the fridge now says Unfiltered Water, we replace our non-RFID filters every 6 months so we know our water is clean and filtered. Thanks Jack for a very well written article.
Is this something that a consumer protection lawyer might want to take up as a class action suitI paid about $3,000 for the refrigerator. Now I have to pay $100 per year (2 filters at 50 each) for the life of the refrigerator, 10 to 15 years, in order to keep the water dispenser and ice maker working. That adds $1,000 to $1,500 to t he total cost of t he product, depending on the life of the refrigerator.
I cut out the plastic with the chip on it from the original bypass, Glued it to the back of the cover door and has been working fine for over a year now. But you are correct, something might have changed like additional ID embedded in the white plastic or
Same behavior on my GE fridge purchased 11 months ago. We left the filter in until we started to notice the water flow was slowing down, which happened around 10 months. In order to use the RWPF filter I bought, I removed the chip from the bypass filter by cutting away a chunk of the plastic in which the chip sits. I used a mini hacksaw and power drill. (The bypass filter is still useable, by the way.) I then had to file down the attached plastic on the backside of the chip to make it thin enough so the RWPF filter would fit all the way in when pushed into the compartment. This took awhile to accomplish. I took my time being extra careful not to damage the chip. I taped the chip against the chip reader sensor position in the fridge using sturdy plastic packing tape.
Did your TV remote control suddenly go dead Wireless mouse died near the end of your term paper Need AA batteries and all you have are AAA I've got a quick hack for you to get you through those last minutes until you can get to the shops for some proper batteries. Time needed is about 5 minutes, supplies needed cost about 50 cents - not including your AAA batteries. You may very well have all these items on hand.
I did this today when my mouse died and I realized all I had were AAA batteries. I popped out the AA batteries and looked at them compared to the AAA batteries. Both put out 1.5 Volts per battery and the same Amps. That's important since it means we won't damage the electronics inside the mouse. The AA battery does have greater capacity, meaning it will run the same device longer than a AAA would - but this is a stop-gap hack, not a permanent solution. The only real difference between the two sizes is, well, size. The diameter of the AA is greater than that of the AAA. If you're curious about differences in batteries and types such as Li-Ion or Ni-Cad, check out my article, Not All Are Made Equal: Using The Right Batteries For The Job.
Although this is maybe more of a little trick than a real hack, it shows you a few things. You're not helpless even when you think you are helpless. Also, it shows you that when you start to try to solve a problem in earnest, little things tend to happen along the way that help you even more. And lastly, and most least, it shows you that sometimes I have too much time on my hands.
