The Walters -- What's Left

An article in the online newsletter of a Catholic mission in Phoenix revealed that Walters died two years ago at the age of 76. He left an estate worth about $4 million. Along with the money he left for NPR, Walters also left money for the mission.
Star Jones infamously announced her departure on-air, while Elisabeth Hasselbeck tried to quit during a commercial break long before her official exit. Oh, and who can forget that Rosie O'Donnell abruptly left the daytime show not one, but twice?
The CNN commentator originally co-hosted The View from 1999 to 2002, joining the show at just 26 years old. Fun fact: Her audition included a live on-air interview, in which former host Vieira asked her whether or not she was a virgin. Ling ultimately left to host MSNBC's National Geographic Explorer.
Background: There is limited data on the efficacy of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) for the treatment of left ventricular thrombus. Currently, vitamin K antagonists (VKAs) remain the preferred oral anticoagulant for left ventricular thrombus. In this retrospective study, we assessed the safety and efficacy of DOACs in comparison to VKAs in patients with a new diagnosis of left ventricular thrombus.
Methods: We retrospectively identified all patients admitted to the 5 Catholic Health Initiative Omaha hospitals with a diagnosis of left ventricular thrombus between January 2012 and March 2019 and were discharged on oral anticoagulants. Patients were stratified into 2 groups: VKAs or DOACs and followed for up to 1 year. We compared the outcomes of ischemic stroke, bleeding, and echocardiographic resolution of left ventricular thrombus between the 2 groups.
Results: A total of 99 patients were included in this study (mean age: 61 years, 29% females). Of these, 80 (81%) were discharged on VKAs and 19 (19%) on DOACs. Stroke within 1 year of diagnosis occurred in 2 patients in the VKA group and none in the DOAC group (P = 0.49). Bleeding events were observed in 5 patients (4 in the VKA group and 1 in the DOAC group; P = 0.96). Ninety patients had follow-up echocardiogram; resolution of left ventricular thrombus was similar between the 2 groups (VKAs vs DOACs: 81% vs 80%; P = 0.9).
"It never surprises me that the left finds a way to take everything out of context," Walters wrote in the text message to The Oklahoman. "The assault on Christmas lives on today and I just appreciate a Santa that still says Merry Christmas :)."
A former McAlester High School history teacher who was chosen as Gov. Kevin Stitt's education secretary before he ran for state superintendent, Walters has been a vocal critic of what he describes has "left-wing ideology" in public schools, and has promised to expand school choice and empower parents to make more decisions about how their children experience education.
If you wanted to know what's wrong with American politics, all you had to do was watch "The View" on Thursday, when co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar walked off the set after Fox News commentator Bill O'Reilly announced that "Muslims killed us on 9/11." In the wake of their departure, co-host Barbara Walters, who is becoming more schoolmarmish with every passing year, admonished her colleagues, telling the audience, "You have just seen what should never happen," and adding that "we" should be able to sit down and talk calmly about politics even if we disagree.
There are only two reasons to invite Bill O'Reilly on the show, or anywhere on television, for that matter: to rouse the right or provoke the left. O'Reilly has built a very successful career on his patent refusal to have a conversation. He doesn't speak; depending on your political persuasion, he either rants or declaims. He rarely lets anyone, including those with whom he is in complete agreement, finish a sentence, much less an argument. As a television performer he is an archetype - the unapologetic hectoring provocateur: a role in which the ladies of "The View," Behar, Goldberg and Elisabeth Hasselbeck in particular, also occasionally dabble.
Actually, "heated up" implies something more sophisticated than what happened, just as "conversation" lends a credibility to the exchange that was not present. O'Reilly was criticizing the president, as is his wont, and brought up the case of the mosque that may be built near ground zero, a site he referred to, in a fascinating twist of etymology, as "9/11." His original point - that President Obama has not clarified his feelings beyond acknowledging that "they" had a right to build a mosque there - was quickly lost as the argument turned toward the much more incendiary topic of religious freedom vis-a-vis Islam. Which is when O'Reilly said that "Muslims killed us on 9/11," and Goldberg and Behar got up and left. (They came back later, after O'Reilly added "extremist" to Muslim, which was embarrassing to everyone.)
Season 4 of Home Town saw some big casting changes. At the time, Erin and Ben Napier announced that team member Jonathan Walters would not be returning to the show. Scroll below for details on why he left the HGTV series and where he is now.
In his spare time, Newsom engages in verbal sparring matches with governors of states, such as Florida and Texas, that were sliding to the right as California was drifting to the left during the first decades of the 21st century.
I looked at the 17th green and thought, can I really build this? The 17th was a long par three with a green set at the top of the hill falling away in front and left. Walter had added a large set of mounds along the right side creating a high ridgeline. Missing right would be dead, so the addition of a bunker seems to be more about discouraging a bold tee shot than penalizing it.
The entire green falls hard from right to left with a series of knolls on the left flattening out the bottom of the green to create pin locations. But these mounds are spread further apart to let the water run out making those spots fast and tough to putt. The front and back are separated by a large diagonal ridge. The front pitches very hard from right to left and really only the front left is a reasonable pin. The back has a bit more bowl shape making it more receptive and falls a little less severely from right to left. 781b155fdc
