At the game's launch, it was available for pre-order on Steam and other online retailers for US $59.99. The game shipped on September 15, 2017. There was a physical cartridge release in the early 2018 for the Xbox One. Namco announced on September 4, 2018 that the cartridge release of Soul Calibur V would be delayed.
The first content of the game was released alongside the game's launch and launched as part of Namco's launch promotion on PlayStation Store. The first downloadable content pack for the game with some of Soulcalibur IV's characters was released through Namco's event Soulcalibur Legends on October 12, 2017. Three more DLC packs were released, one after another, with three being released on a monthly basis. The Kratos, Phoenix Wright, and Astaroth downloadable content packs released alongside their respective character's DLC packs. The game's multiplayer mode was also ported to YouTube for toxicity. On October 3, 2018, Soulcalibur VI was announced at Gamescom 2018 with a November 8 launch date. Along with the announcement of Soulcalibur VI, the game was released digitally on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, as well as being available via a physical disc for PlayStation 4 on the same day.
